Gulfood Manufacturing 2026 runs from November 3 to 5 at Dubai World Trade Centre. Opening hours are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on November 3 and 4, and 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on November 5. Processing and packaging exhibitors are in Halls 1–4, Za’abeel Halls 1–3, the Trade Centre Arena and the Sheikh Saeed Halls, according to the organiser. It is a trade-only show: registration is compulsory and visitors under 21 are not admitted, per the admission policy.
If you run a food factory in the Gulf, Saudi Arabia or the wider Middle East, it is one of the best places in the region to see packaging machines running and to talk to suppliers face to face. But three days goes fast. Buyers who arrive with a clear spec and the right questions leave with quotes they can actually compare. Buyers who don’t often leave with a bag of brochures.
This food packaging machine buying guide covers what to prepare, what to ask at each booth, and what to check before you sign.
Food Packaging Machine Buying Guide: Start With a One-Page Spec
Suppliers can only quote accurately if you tell them exactly what you pack. Put these points on one page and bring printed copies (and a PDF on your phone):
- Product: what it is (powder, granules, liquid, paste, solid pieces, bakery items), and how it behaves (sticky, fragile, dusty, oily, free-flowing).
- Pack format: pillow bag, gusseted bag, stand-up pouch, zipper pouch, sachet, stick pack, cup, tray or flow-wrapped item.
- Pack sizes: every weight or volume you need now, and any you plan to add.
- Target output: packs per minute or per shift that you actually need, not the highest number you saw in a catalogue.
- Packaging material: film type and structure, roll width, or pre-made pouch type. Bring a few samples of your current film or pouch.
- Dosing accuracy: how close each pack must be to the declared weight.
- Extras: date coding, nitrogen flushing, metal detection, check-weighing, labelling, cartoning.
- Site limits: floor space, ceiling height, compressed air, and your electrical supply (see below).
Shortlist the Right Machine Type First
Many wasted booth visits come from talking to the wrong kind of supplier. As a general guide:
| What you pack | Machine types to look at |
|---|---|
| Snacks, nuts, frozen food, granules | Vertical form fill seal (VFFS) with a multihead or linear weigher |
| Powders (milk powder, spices, flour) | VFFS or pouch machine with an auger filler |
| Biscuits, bakery, bars, single items | Horizontal flow wrapper (HFFS) |
| Coffee, premium snacks, pet food | Pre-made pouch (doypack) packing machine |
| Sauces, honey, liquids | Sachet or stick-pack machine with a liquid or piston filler |
| Yogurt, desserts, jelly | Cup filling and sealing machine |
| Fresh meat, ready meals | Tray sealer, often with modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) |
Your final choice depends on your product, so treat this as a starting point and confirm with suppliers using your own samples.
Questions to Ask at Every Booth
Ask every supplier the same questions so you can compare answers side by side afterwards. A simple table in your notebook works well.
About the Machine
- What output can it reach with my product and my film, not the demo product?
- Which parts touch the food, and what are they made of? Can you supply material certificates for food-contact parts?
- How long does a changeover between pack sizes take, and which change parts are needed for each size?
- Which brands are used for the PLC, servo motors, pneumatics and sensors? Are they easy to buy in my country?
- What is the warranty, and what exactly does it cover?
About the Supplier
- Do you manufacture this machine yourselves, or source it from another factory?
- Which Middle East customers use this model? Can I speak to one or see a video of the machine running at their site?
- Who installs the machine, and who trains my operators? Is that on-site, by video call, or both?
- How do you handle spare parts? Is there a recommended spare-parts kit, and how fast can parts reach me?
- What is the lead time from deposit to shipment?
Check Power Supply Before You Get a Quote
This point catches many buyers out, because the answer changes from one Gulf country to the next.
- China’s grid runs at 50 Hz.
- Saudi Arabia’s runs at 60 Hz (Saudi Arabian Grid Code), with a standard low-voltage three-phase supply of 400 V / 230 V (Saudi Electricity Company specification).
- Dubai’s runs at 50 Hz, with a nominal supply of 230 / 400 V, according to DEWA’s Regulations for Electrical Installations.
So a buyer in Dubai and a buyer in Riyadh need different electrical specs from the same supplier. Supply in other Middle East markets varies, so check your own plant.
Why it matters: motors, pumps and some heaters behave differently at a different frequency. A machine built for 50 Hz may run at the wrong speed or overheat at 60 Hz unless it is designed or adjusted for it.
Tell every supplier your exact voltage, frequency and number of phases in writing, and make sure the final contract and the machine’s rating plate state the same values.
Not sure what to specify? Send your one-page spec and your plant’s voltage and frequency to Zhenbao Trading on WhatsApp: +852 9702 5284 or +86 158 7238 6392. We’ll recommend a machine type and tell you what to ask for in the quote.
Compliance: Saudi SABER and Food-Contact Materials
If the Machine Is Going to Saudi Arabia
Imports into Saudi Arabia go through SABER, the electronic conformity platform run by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO). In general terms:
- Products covered by a Saudi technical regulation need a Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC) registered on SABER.
- Every shipment then needs a Shipment Certificate. SASO’s e-service page lists the fee as SAR 350, with an estimated time of 1–2 working days (as listed by SASO in October 2026).
- SASO has issued a Technical Regulation for Machinery Safety in several parts. Which part (if any) applies depends on the type of machine. The regulation texts require a technical file that includes the supplier’s declaration of conformity and a risk assessment.
What to do: ask your Saudi importer or customs broker, together with a SASO-approved conformity assessment body, which requirements apply to your exact machine and HS code before the machine ships. Ask the supplier up front whether they can provide the technical file, risk assessment and test reports needed, and who pays for certification.

Food-Contact Parts
Whatever your market, your food-safety auditors and customers will want to know what touches the product. Ask for the grade of stainless steel and the plastics used on contact parts, along with material certificates, and make sure these are written into the contract specification.
Comparing Quotes: Look at Total Cost, Not Just Price
After the show you will likely have quotes from European, Turkish, Chinese and local suppliers, and the prices can be far apart. Compare them on the same basis:
- Scope: is the weigher, filler, conveyor, date coder or check-weigher included, or extra?
- Change parts for every pack size you listed.
- Installation, commissioning and training: included, or charged per day plus travel?
- Spare parts kit and the price list for wear parts.
- Remote support: can the supplier log in to the PLC or support you by video call?
- Shipping terms: FOB, CIF or delivered, and who handles customs.
- Lead time and payment terms.
A lower price that leaves out change parts or installation can end up costing more.
Before You Pay the Balance: Insist on a Factory Acceptance Test
A factory acceptance test (FAT) is a trial run at the supplier’s factory before the machine ships. It is your best chance to catch problems while they are still cheap to fix.
- Send your own product and film or pouches to the factory for the test.
- Agree in writing what the test must show: output, weight accuracy, seal quality and changeover.
- Attend in person, send someone, or join by live video call and ask for a recorded video.
- Link the balance payment to a successful FAT.
After the Show: Follow Up Within Two Weeks
Send every shortlisted supplier your one-page spec and a sample of your film, and ask for a written, itemised quote within a set deadline. Ask for a running video of the exact model with a product similar to yours. Then compare the quotes using the checklist above.

FAQ
When and where is Gulfood Manufacturing 2026?
Gulfood Manufacturing 2026 takes place from November 3 to 5, 2026, at Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai, UAE. It opens 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the first two days and 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the last day, and it is open to trade visitors only.
What should I bring when visiting packaging machine suppliers at a trade show?
Bring a one-page spec with your product, pack formats and sizes, target output, dosing accuracy and electrical supply, plus samples of your current film or pouches. This lets suppliers quote accurately and makes quotes easier to compare.
Can a Chinese packaging machine run on a 60 Hz power supply?
Many can, but it must be specified. China’s grid is 50 Hz, Saudi Arabia’s is 60 Hz, and Dubai’s is 50 Hz. Tell the supplier your exact voltage, frequency and phases before they quote, and check that the contract and rating plate match.
Do packaging machines need a SABER certificate for Saudi Arabia?
Imports into Saudi Arabia need a Shipment Certificate issued through SASO’s SABER platform, and products covered by a technical regulation also need a Product Certificate of Conformity. Which machinery requirements apply depends on the machine, so check with your importer or a SASO-approved conformity assessment body before shipping.
What is a factory acceptance test for a packaging machine?
It is a trial run at the supplier’s factory, using your own product and packaging, before the machine ships. You check output, weight accuracy and seal quality against agreed targets, and link the balance payment to passing the test.cturing 2026: A Buyer’s Checklist
