Semi-auto machines are easier to clean. End of shift, you disassemble the dosing nozzle, wipe down the contact surfaces, and you’re done in 15–20 minutes.
Fully automatic lines have more contact points — conveyors, robotic arms, multi-head filling manifolds. A thorough clean can take 45–60 minutes. If you’re switching between essence formulations daily (for example, different viscosities or ingredients that could cross-contaminate), that downtime eats into your effective output.
Rule of thumb: If you’re running the same formulation for 3+ days straight, the automatic line’s cleaning cost is negligible. If you’re switching daily, semi-auto is more efficient.
Maintenance & Parts
A semi-automatic machine has fewer moving parts. When something breaks, it’s usually a solenoid valve, a sealing element, or a dosing pump — parts that cost $50–$200 and can be swapped in 30 minutes.
